The Turkish legal process against imprisoned journalist Joakim Medin could take several years, says his editor-in-chief Andreas Gustavsson at Dagens ETC.
Journalist Joakim Medin traveled to Istanbul on March 27 on assignment for the newspaper Dagens ETC. The intention was to cover the widespread political protests in the country. However, Medin was arrested at the airport and has been imprisoned since then.
The charges are not specified, but are said to involve allegations of participating in a terrorist organization and insulting Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
In an interview with his own newspaper, editor-in-chief Andreas Gustavsson says that the legal process risks becoming prolonged.
“Formally, Turkey could allow this process to drag on for a very long time. It could stretch over many months or even years before it becomes transparent and the lawyers have something solid to sink their teeth into. We can only hope and work to ensure that it doesn’t go that far,” he says.
