The head of the American Greenland base has been dismissed.

At the Pituffik Base, formerly known as Thule Base, Greenlanders, Danes, Americans, and Canadians work side by side. In an email to all employees three days after the visit, the base commander, Colonel Susannah Meyers, promised her team that “all our flags will fly proudly” on the base as long as she remains in charge.

JD Vance made very sharp remarks against Denmark during his visit:

“Our message to Denmark is very simple: You have not done a good job in keeping Greenland safe.”

He also said that the base and its surroundings are less safe now than they were 30–40 years ago.

In the email to employees, Susannah Meyers emphasized that the concerns expressed by the vice president during the visit do not reflect the conditions at the base.

On Thursday, Space Operations Command announced that Meyers had been relieved of her duties due to a lack of trust in her leadership abilities.

“Commanders are expected to adhere to the highest standards of conduct, especially when it comes to remaining politically neutral in the execution of their duties,” stated Space Operations Command.
