SOS Alarm received the alert at 15:46 that someone had been hit by a train at the Malmö freight yard in Kirseberg, approximately 3.5 kilometers from Malmö Central Station. Police, fire services, and ambulances were dispatched to the scene.
“There was talk that two people may have been hit,” said Ola Nilsson at SOS Alarm at 17:10.
At that time, ambulances were still at the scene.
At 17:30, the police announced that the train involved in the accident had begun to be evacuated.
Due to the accident, train traffic between Malmö and Lund was halted for many hours. Police forensic technicians worked at the site until 20:45, when it was announced that the investigation at the scene was complete and the train stoppage had been lifted.
At around 22:00, train traffic resumed, but the Swedish Transport Administration announced that delays and canceled trains would continue throughout the evening and night.
