Sweden Expands Military Fleet with 94 New Pansarterrängbil 300 Vehicles

Sweden has taken a decisive step to bolster its ground forces by ordering an additional 94 of the six-wheeled armoured vehicles Patria 6×6 — known in Swedish service as Pansarterrängbil 300 — under the multinational Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) programme.

The deal is valued at roughly SEK 1.5 billion (about €140 million) and brings the total number of Pansarterrängbil 300 vehicles ordered by Sweden to 415, to be delivered between 2025 and 2030.

The new batch will include variants for troop transport, command & control, and medical evacuation — reflecting a comprehensive upgrade to Sweden’s land-mobility and support capacity.

Military analysts see the order as part of Sweden’s deeper commitment to long-term defence readiness. The CAVS programme — originally spearheaded by Finland and Latvia — aims to deliver standardized, modern armoured mobility across participating European nations.

By integrating Pansarterrängbil 300 into its forces, Sweden ensures its ground units maintain compatibility with allied forces, especially in northern European security contexts.

Sweden’s defence authorities have noted that a significant portion of the vehicle systems will be produced in Swedish factories, underscoring the project’s dual benefit: strengthening national security while sustaining domestic defence-industry jobs.

In effect, this procurement not only raises Sweden’s operational capacity but also signals its long-term strategic orientation: readiness for rapid deployment, interoperability with allies, and investment in robust logistics and support infrastructures. As regional tensions remain elevated, particularly given wider European security concerns, the new order underscores Sweden’s evolving role in continental defence cooperation.
